Digital legacy · Two different jobs

YoursSomeday vs DGLegacy

Asset inheritance awareness or personal Capsules for specific people?

Both help you prepare for the people you leave behind. One starts with what they need to find. The other starts with what you want them to receive.

Official sources reviewed · No universal winner

What are you trying to leave behind?

Two different jobs, from preparation to what your people receive.

DGLegacy

An asset map

  1. 01Catalog

Digital, financial and physical assets, passwords and documents.

  2. 02Assign people

Designate beneficiaries and trustees for your asset information.

  3. 03Heartbeat checks

DGLegacy describes detecting a fatal event through its Heartbeat Protocol.

  4. 04Inform beneficiaries

Proactively notify designated beneficiaries about assigned assets.

  5. 05Identify & locate

Help people find what exists; claiming ownership is a separate process.

YoursSomeday

A personal Capsule

  1. 01Create

Prepare a message, memory, important information or instructions.

  2. 02Choose recipients

Decide who receives this particular Capsule.

  3. 03Seal & protect

Keep its contents private, with its own release instructions.

  4. 04Check & verify

Life Check-Ins can flag a review. Missed check-ins alone never release content.

  5. 05Authorize release

Separate authorization releases that Capsule to its selected recipients.

DGLegacy’s flow reflects its published Heartbeat and beneficiary-notification description, not an independently verified performance claim. Death verification and release procedures are in place today. They currently follow an established review and authorization process; automation of these steps is planned for the future.

Where they overlap

Private information. Chosen people. Post-death preparedness. Notifications that help people know what comes next.

Where they fundamentally differ

An asset map answers “What exists, and where can I find it?” A personal Capsule answers “What did you want me to receive?”

DGLegacy centers asset discovery and beneficiary awareness. YoursSomeday centers messages, memories and instructions for particular people, each Capsule with its own recipients and release instructions. Neither job makes the other unnecessary.

A focused decision matrix

Compare purpose, people and release—not just whether a feature appears on a list. Source numbers link to the official materials used for DGLegacy’s column.

Primary purpose
DGLegacyCatalog digital, financial and physical assets so designated beneficiaries know what exists and can identify and locate it. [1]
YoursSomedayPrivate Capsules for specific people containing words, memories, important information, files and instructions.
Asset cataloging / passwords
DGLegacyAsset and password cataloging, documents and digital files are central to the service. [3]
YoursSomedayPractical information and files can accompany personal messages. Not positioned as an asset inventory or password manager.
Personal messages & memories
DGLegacyOfficial materials emphasize asset information and inheritance awareness rather than a dedicated personal-memory workflow. [3]
YoursSomedayPersonal words and memories are central, with selected recipients and separate release instructions for each Capsule.
Audio & video support
DGLegacyOfficial materials mention digital files and documents broadly, but do not clearly establish a dedicated personal audio/video-memory workflow. Check current file support with DGLegacy. [3]
YoursSomedayYes — plan-dependent audio and video media support in Capsules.
Record directly in the platform
DGLegacyCurrent official materials reviewed do not document native audio/video recording. [2]
YoursSomedayYes — record voice or video directly inside YoursSomeday and add the recording to a Capsule without downloading or uploading a file. The Capsule keeps its own encrypted copy.
Recipient/beneficiary specificity
DGLegacyDesignate beneficiaries for assets/passwords; Gold and Platinum allow multiple beneficiaries per asset/password. [2]
YoursSomedayEach Capsule has its own selected recipients. Receiving one Capsule does not grant general account access.
Trustees vs Trusted Verifiers
DGLegacyTrustees support beneficiaries in locating and claiming assigned assets. This inheritance-support role is distinct from a YoursSomeday Trusted Verifier. [2]
YoursSomedayAccount Owner, Recipient and Trusted Verifier are separate roles. Verification does not automatically grant access to Capsule contents.
Life/fatal-event checks
DGLegacyHeartbeat may use biometric login, social-media activity, email check-ups and premium phone-call check-ups. The FAQ says no detected alive events triggers the digital-inheritance process. [2]
YoursSomedayMissed Life Check-Ins alone never release content. Verification and separate authorization are required before release. Death verification and release procedures are in place today. They currently follow an established review and authorization process; automation of these steps is planned for the future.
What happens after death
DGLegacyProactively informs designated beneficiaries about assigned assets so they can identify and locate them; does not itself handle claiming ownership. [2]
YoursSomedayAuthorized recipients receive their designated Capsules after verification and separate authorization, according to each Capsule’s release instructions.
Sharing while living
DGLegacyIts homepage describes Quick Share for immediate sharing of asset or password data, including with non-users, separately from its inheritance process. [1]
YoursSomedayFuneral Planning Capsules can be explicitly shared while living. Ordinary post-death instructions are separate; this is not a general household co-editing service.
Recipient cost
DGLegacyBeneficiaries and trustees do not pay to access their assigned information. [2]
YoursSomedayRecipients do not pay to receive their authorized Capsules.
Legal role / does it replace a will
DGLegacySays it is not a law firm and does not handle claiming asset ownership. Asset awareness is not a replacement for a will or legal estate planning. [2]
YoursSomedayYoursSomeday is not a will, trust or estate plan and does not replace legal advice. Keep legal decisions with qualified professionals.

Questions before you choose

Is YoursSomeday a DGLegacy alternative?

For some digital-legacy needs, yes, but the jobs differ. DGLegacy focuses on asset cataloging and beneficiary awareness. YoursSomeday focuses on private messages, memories and instructions for specific recipients. Choose by what you want people to receive, not a universal ranking.

Can I use both?

Yes. An asset map can help people find accounts and property, while personal Capsules can carry your words, memories and context. Keep each service’s assigned people and instructions up to date, alongside your legal planning.

Does a missed check-in release YoursSomeday content?

Missed Life Check-Ins alone never release content. Verification and separate authorization are required before release. Death verification and release procedures are in place today. They currently follow an established review and authorization process; automation of these steps is planned for the future.

Does DGLegacy replace a will?

No. DGLegacy says it is not a law firm and does not itself handle claiming asset ownership. Its purpose is to help beneficiaries become aware of designated assets so they can identify and locate them. Neither service replaces a will, trust or qualified legal advice.

Do recipients/beneficiaries pay?

YoursSomeday recipients do not pay. DGLegacy’s official FAQ says beneficiaries and trustees do not pay to access their assigned information. Owner plans are a separate question; check each service’s current plan terms.

Start with what only you can leave.

If your priority is personal words, memories and instructions for particular people, begin with one private Capsule.
